Syntax
Syntax is the study of sentence structure. For many linguists, this is the core area of linguistics leading to most fundamental insights about natural language.
In order to understand the secrets of syntax a number of basic concepts have to be discussed:
- Grammar
- Syntactic form (categories)
- Syntactic function
Syntacticians investigate the patterns and regularities that underlie the combination of words into sentences.
